Boons and Curses
Animated adventure comedy about the warrior legends of ancient South Asia.
Meena is an Indian American comedy writer/director from the Texas border. She has a passion for stories that feature women with wild ambitions, food, and characters who live in the intersection of cultures.

Growing up by the border, Meena spent her childhood playing tag through orange groves and throwing potlucks filled with curry and tamales. Unsurprisingly, she developed a passion for stories about culture. After working in healthcare for a decade, Meena has a lifelong interest in science and meeting her deductible.
Meena wrote on Boons and Curses, a Netflix adventure-comedy inspired by the warrior legends of South Asia. She was also a writer on Ghee Happy, a Netflix series about the adventures of Hindu gods. Ghee Happy won an Annie Award and was nominated for an Emmy. An advocate for abolition, Meena wrote about her hilariously, heartwrenching fight for justice in From Number to Name, a play that premiered at East West Players.
As a director, Meena created The FOB and I, a webseries about Indian identity that was featured by Indiewire, NBC, BBC, and called “a solution to Hollywood’s diversity problem.” The show received funding from Ron Howard’s New Form Digital and won a development deal with Series Fest and Seed&Spark.
Meena’s work has been recognized by the Sony Lens Directing Program, the CAPE Julia S. Gouw Program, the ABC Disney Writing Program, Sundance, Raindance, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, and Women in Film’s Insight Program.
Meena is a film graduate of the University of Texas and USC’s M.F.A program in Film and Television Production program. She loves a good restaurant rec, nature walks, and old sitcoms. She looks forward to continuing her career telling funny, personal stories.
